NO KINGS – Resistance Art Show Brings Political Art and Free Speech to Queens

By Alyce Wittenstein | Forest Hills, NY | November 8, 2025

The NO KINGS – Resistance Art Show opens this month at YANT ART SPACE in Forest Hills, transforming a local gallery into a vibrant crossroads of art, activism, and community resistance. Hosted by Forest Hills Indivisible, the show brings together artists who are using creativity as a weapon against authoritarianism and a beacon for democratic values.

Art Meets Activism in Queens

The Resistance Art Show showcases work by a diverse group of artists whose pieces embody protest, resilience, and imagination. Featured artists include Julie Peppito, James Hannaham, Sally Apfelbaum, Dana Wehle, Noemi Altman, Rikki Asher, Steve Ostringer, Alyce Wittenstein, Cory Choy, and David Choy — each exploring the intersection of art and political courage.

From paintings and installations to multimedia protest art, each work in NO KINGS asserts the enduring truth that creativity is a form of resistance.

Event Highlights

The opening reception will feature an engaging lineup of activities:

  • A First Amendment discussion exploring the role of art in protecting free speech

  • A button-making station where visitors can design their own message of resistance

  • Live performances celebrating the joy and urgency of collective action

These interactive components turn the exhibition into more than a show — it’s a participatory act of free expression.

A Movement, Not Just an Exhibit

The NO KINGS movement emerged from Queens’ grassroots activist community, uniting artists and organizers who reject systems of greed, censorship, and hierarchy. The exhibition is both a celebration of democracy and a creative protest against political apathy.

“Art has always been a language of liberation,” says organizer Alyce Wittenstein. “This show reminds people that when we say No Kings, we’re saying no to authoritarianism, and yes to the people.
