WHY CHOOSE US?

Wittenstein & Wittenstein has established itself as a top New York City Personal Injury Firm by getting great results for clients for over 60 years.  We’ve collected millions of dollars for thousands of clients, who have enthusiastically referred their family and friends for generations.  But a top New York City Personal Injury Firm doesn’t get that reputation JUST from great settlements and verdicts – it’s the way we treat each and every client that really makes us special.  We go out of our way to explain every aspect of every case to every client.  Calls are promptly returned, and explanations are gladly provided.  We promise that you’ll never be anxiously wondering “what’s going on?”  Why settle for less, when you can have the best?

The firm was born on Utica Avenue in Brooklyn in 1959, providing straight-talking legal services to a struggling Community.  The word spread, clients referring their friends and family and another office opened in Brooklyn.  Mr. Wittenstein believed that each client deserved his time, attention and respect.  He earned each client’s trust with a dedication to getting them the best possible settlements and verdict, but also by helping them out in any way he could with other legal matters that would have required billable retainers elsewhere.  He went the extra mile for each and every client and the referrals pouring in.  In 1984, the practice moved to Queens, incorporated as Frederick M. Wittenstein, Esq. P.C.  A year later, the firm moved to the Cord Meyer Building on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills.  The clients came from Brooklyn, and new clients came from Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan, Staten Island and Nassau County.  The children of the original clients from Brooklyn came to us.  Mr. Wittenstein is retired, but remains as a consultant to the practice.

Alyce B. Wittenstein
Alyce B. WittensteinSenior Partner
I have been working on personal injury law cases for over 30 years. I began working as a paralegal for my father, Frederick M. Wittenstein, Esq. in 1988. In 1995 I went to CUNY Law School and was admitted to practice in 1999. In 2000 the name of the firm was changed to Wittenstein & Wittenstein, Esqs as it is today. Now I work with a staff of wonderful paralegals and of-counsel attorneys to bring clients not only the best outcomes, but also the best experience possible during the process.

Ms. Tanis began her work as a personal injury paralegal in 2017 but her interest in law began prior to joining Wittenstein & Wittenstein, Esqs. PC. During her undergraduate career at Binghamton University, Ms. Tanis was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity and Thurgood Marshall Pre-Law Society where she served as treasurer for two years. During her time with these organizations, she was able to host law trips, organize mock trials and law conferences for the student body. Ms. Tanis also works part-time as a NYC Lyft Driver where she holds the position of Northeast Representative for the Lyft Driver Advisory Council. This job and role has afforded Ms. Tanis an intimate understanding of the innerworkings of the rideshare industry.
Jennifer Mendoza
Jennifer MendozaParalegal
Jennifer Mendoza was a Poli-Sci major. That’s where she developed her initial interest in law. She started reading about the paralegal profession and felt that her interests and skills would be a good fit. She handled two secretarial jobs right out of college and learned how to get the work done. She also put in some time working in restaurants, where she learned how to handle stressful situations and smooth over ruffled feathers. She put all of this together and was honored with an invitation to join Wittenstein & Wittenstein where she is a valuable part of the team.

Product Liability Claims Lead to Ridiculous (and hysterically funny) Warning Labels

I was going to write a post about the most common types of product liability claims and a serious article about how manufacturers can be held liable when they are negligent or reckless in the design of their products.  Another major basis for product liability lawsuits is the "failure to warn" about the dangers of using a product.  Warning labels are intended to give consumers the information they need to use a product safely, such as warnings about allergens and appropriate uses for a product.  I'm not sure if manufacturers are trying to avoid liability or just making fun of lawyers with some of [...]

10 Ways to Get a Personal Injury Attorney to Take Your Case

The contingency fee system was signed into law to allow people that cannot afford to pay attorneys access to the legal system to assert their rights.  Personal Injury Attorneys do not get paid for their services unless, and until, a settlement is accepted or a judgment is entered.  This means that they must be very selective about the cases they take on, only accepting cases that they believe are winnable.  Below are 10 ways to get a personal injury attorney to take your case, in other words, here's how you help a personal injury attorney say "yes" to your case. EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT [...]

The Difference Between Sexual Harassment & Sexual Assault

The Difference Between Sexual Harassment & Sexual Assault It seems as if every time we turn on the news, there’s another accusation about sexual harassment or assault that comes up. We are living in a time where behavior that was once minimized and brushed aside is now coming to public attention. People now feel emboldened to speak up and are encouraged by movements such as ME TOO to take a stand. As more offenses come to the public sphere and terms such as sexual assault and sexual harassment gain traction, knowing the difference between each becomes increasingly difficult. Below we break down the difference. [...]

Why Women Attorneys are better for Harassment and Personal Injury Cases

Working in New York City or any other city in the world comes with its own benefits and advantages as well as with its risks and problems. One thing that is easily (and sometimes not-so-easily) noticeable is that when it comes to the ratio of benefits to risks and problems, men have more benefits and are liable to suffer from less problems than women. This can be accredited to the fact in most organizations, men are more revered and hold more prestigious positions than women. Women have to swim through rivers and seas to get the amount of respect and opportunities which men don’t [...]
