Queens Herniated Discs Attorney

NEW YORK CITY HERNIATED DISC INJURY ATTORNEY

A serious and common injury from traffic accidents is a herniated disc.  A herniated disc can occur anywhere in the spine, but most often it is the lumbar or cervical spine.  While this is a serious and painful injury, a combination of chiropractic care, physical therapy and pain management can usually reduce or eliminate symptoms.  Surgery is very rarely necessary.

If you are suffering from a herniated disc caused by a traffic accident that was not your fault, you should be seeking medical treatment and legal representation.  At Wittenstein & Wittenstein, we’ve been helping injured people collect compensation for over 60 years. Please call us at our office in Forest Hills, Queens for a free consultation to find out if you have a case.  Call 718-261-8114 for an appointment.

The Anatomy of the Spine

  • 33 vertebrae made up of interlocking discs
  • 5 regions, cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral and coccyx
  • Cervical is the top of your spine with 7 vertebrae
  • Thoracic is the longest portion, right below, with 12 vertebrae
  • Lumbar is your lower back with 5 verebrae
  • Sacral and Coccyx are your tailbone, actually 4 bones fused together

Discs

The discs protect the vertebrae from shock and provide flexibility.  As people getting older they lose fluid in the discs and they become more brittle.  This can also happen with an injury.

Disc Herniation

A disc herniation is when the gelatinous fluid in the disc is forced out, and pain is caused when this causes pressure on nerves.  Bulging discs are a less severe form, when the fluid bulges, but does not push out as far. Symptoms include pain, numbness, tingling and weakness.  Sometimes there are more severe complications such as bowel or bladder dysfunction, but this is rare.

Most physicians will use an MRI to diagnose a herniated or bulging disc as this injury does not show up on an X-ray.  They will correlate these results with clinical testing such as reflex, range of motion and muscle strength testing and provide an appropriate treatment plan.

If you suffer from a herniated disc injury sustained in an accident, you need an attorney that is an expert!  The insurance companies and defense attorneys will claim that this is “not a serious injury” because it’s not a fracture, but we know that’s not true, and just how to prove it.  At Wittenstein & Wittenstein, we’ve been representing victims of herniated disc injuries for over 60 years – benefit from our experience by calling us for a FREE CONSULTATION at 718-261-8114.  You’ll be glad you did!
